Artist Statement
“My artistic explorations involve penetrating physical and psychological intimacy, and discovering its tangibility. I feel the softness and delicacy of a medium or form can contain familiarity, it can be a reminder of ourselves, of our own delicacy, and perhaps of our relationship to the natural world.
These concepts are engaged through the use of various media, including traditional materials and techniques. Oftentimes the material guides me through an intuitive process based on my connection to its sensual characteristics, overtones, and its connection to the content.
In addition to these materials, I often gravitate towards the use of found objects to contemplate history and meaning. My process entails the personification of a specific object (often through personal reference) by going beyond its assigned function, definition, or associations. This too links with familiarity, with which the viewers can then infuse their own meaning into the piece. That is the heart of my focus, to connect to the viewer though an intimate and personal dialogue.”
